Quick answer

The Valparai monsoon package is built for June to September, when the south-west monsoon brings heavy rain, rolling mist and full waterfalls: Chinnakallar, the seasonal cascades on the ghat and, on the Kerala side, Athirappilly at its most powerful. The plan stays flexible. Our driver checks the weather and road conditions every day, some spots (like Monkey Falls) may be closed, and every drive finishes in daylight.

Day-by-day itinerary

Customise this plan
  1. Hill road winding through tea gardensDay 1

    Day 1

    Coimbatore/Pollachi → Aliyar → rain-soaked ghat → Valparai

    • 105 km from Coimbatore · allow 3.5–4 h in rain
    • Valparai
    • Dinner

A later start (around 9 AM) lets the morning showers pass. Aliyar's reservoir fills up through the monsoon, and Monkey Falls opens only when the forest department judges the flow safe. The climb is slower in the rain; our driver keeps to low gears and daylight. Spend the evening in the mist with hot tea, and don't plan walks after dark.

  2. Chinnakallar falls flowing over boulders near ValparaiDay 2

    Day 2

Waterfalls and mist: Chinnakallar, Sholayar, Nallamudi (if clear)

    • About 60–80 km of local driving, weather permitting
    • Valparai
    • Breakfast, dinner

Chinnakallar Falls is the monsoon star: a short rocky path, a few leeches and a roaring cascade. Sholayar Dam's reservoir rises quickly in the rains. Nallamudi Poonjolai may be lost in cloud, but if a clear window comes, we go. Between showers, tea at a roadside stall is part of the experience.

  3. Wide view of Athirappilly falls and the Chalakudy riverDay 3

    Day 3

Return via Pollachi, or out via Malakkappara and Athirappilly

    • Descent to Pollachi/Coimbatore, or about 85 km to Athirappilly
    • Drop
    • Breakfast

If the forest road is open and the weather allows, leave westwards via Malakkappara and Vazhachal to see Athirappilly Falls in full spate, then continue to Kochi. Otherwise, descend to Pollachi or Coimbatore.

What's included

What's included

  • Pickup and drop at your chosen point (home, hotel, railway station, bus stand or airport within the start city)
  • Hotel, homestay or resort stay in the category you choose (twin/triple sharing)
  • Breakfast and dinner (vegetarian; non-veg on request at extra cost)
  • Fuel, driver bata, toll, parking and inter-state permit
  • Daily weather and road-status checks by our team
  • WhatsApp support before and during the trip

Not included

  • Entry tickets, forest safaris, boating and camera fees
  • Lunch, snacks and meals not mentioned
  • Personal expenses, tips and anything not listed under inclusions
  • Extra costs caused by landslides, road closures or forest-department restrictions

Good to know

  • Heavy rain can close Monkey Falls, waterfall paths and the Malakkappara–Athirappilly forest road for hours or days. We change the plan rather than take risks.
  • Carry umbrellas, quick-dry clothes, leech socks and a waterproof pouch for phones. See the monsoon travel guide.
  • Motion sickness is worse on wet, winding roads, so eat light before the ghat.

My best friend and I visited valparai in August 2025 from chennai for which we sought valparai mahesh Travels. And I must say that mahesh Travels has been truly wonderful in assisting, planning; and commuting throughout our trip. We visited Valparai, parambikulam and Athirapally waterfalls in which valparai and parambikulam were done with valparai mahesh Travels. The cab that was given to us was Toyota Etios which was extremely comfortable and clean for my best friend and I. Our cabbie, mahesh anna, has been supremely sweet and vigilant about our itinerary and other travel needs. We did not miss out on any scenic views thanks to him. His driving was very safe, given the hilly areas are always a bit risky. But he drove us even at odd hours and it was always very safe and conscious. Valparai Mahesh Travels in very accommodating to our questions at odd hours as well, being available 24x7. Valparai and nearby places is a very beautiful nature with serene views and natural surroundings. We are very happy with our trip. As the tourism ad says, it is truly god’s land..
