Quick answer

Chinnakallar Falls is a series of cascades over boulders in dense, very high-rainfall forest roughly 15–20 km from Valparai. A short walk leads to the falls. It is at its best from July to November, when flow is strong; paths are slippery and leeches are common in the wet months. Allow 45–60 minutes and stay on the path.

Why it's special

The Chinnakallar area records some of the highest rainfall in South India, which keeps the forest lush and the cascades lively for months after the monsoon.

Safety

  • Wear shoes with grip; avoid wet boulders.
  • Leech socks in the monsoon.
  • Keep children close; currents can be strong.
