The shortest road down from Ooty is also one of the steepest in South India.
Ooty to Masinagudi is about 30 km via the Kalhatti (Sigur) ghat, which drops steeply through 36 hairpin bends; restrictions on direction, timings or vehicle types have applied at times. The alternative is the longer road via Pykara and Gudalur to Theppakadu, then to Masinagudi (about 70 km). Experienced drivers choose based on the current rules and your vehicle.
