Two hill stations that look close on a map — but the road goes down to the plains and back up.
The Kodaikanal to Ooty route is about 250 km and takes 7–8 hours: down the Palani ghat to Palani, then Udumalpet, Pollachi and Coimbatore, and up the Nilgiris ghat via Mettupalayam and Coonoor. There is no direct hill road open to tourists. Start by 7 AM, or break the journey with a night in Coimbatore or Pollachi — or at Valparai.
