Quick answer

Ooty is excellent for children: boating on Ooty and Pykara lakes, the Botanical Garden's lawns, the Theppakadu elephant camp at Mudumalai and, if you get tickets, the toy train. Break the ghat drive into stages, pack warm clothes for cold nights, avoid peak-season afternoons and choose family rooms close to the town centre.

Kid-friendly list

  • Ooty lake boating
  • Botanical Garden lawns
  • Pykara boating
  • Theppakadu elephant camp (from a distance)
