Quick answer

Around Masinagudi, the legal way to go on safari is the Tamil Nadu Forest Department's safari from Theppakadu. Courts and authorities have restricted night safaris and many private jeep safaris in the buffer area, and stopping, honking, feeding or getting out near wildlife is prohibited. Book only official safaris and stays that follow the rules.

On the road

  • Don't stop to photograph elephants on the highway.
  • Keep windows up near elephants.
  • Obey speed limits — animals cross often.
