Up the coast, then up the ghat into Kerala's northern highlands.
The Kochi to Wayanad route is about 260–280 km and takes 6.5–7.5 hours via Thrissur and Kozhikode, finishing with the Thamarassery ghat's hairpin bends up to Lakkidi and Kalpetta. Leave early to avoid traffic around Thrissur and Kozhikode, and allow extra time on weekends when the ghat can be congested.
