A Kerala road trip from Coimbatore can enter via the Palakkad Gap (fast highway to Thrissur and Kochi), via Udumalpet and Chinnar to Munnar (scenic forest road), or via Pollachi, Valparai and the Malakkappara forest road to Athirappilly (daylight only). A good loop uses one route in and another out. Inter-state vehicle permits apply to tourist vehicles.
