Quick answer

Kanthalloor is pleasant for most of the year because it lies in a rain-shadow valley east of Munnar, drier than the High Ranges. Many travellers aim for the second half of the year, when orchards are typically at their best, or December–February for cool, clear days. Fruit availability varies from year to year, so ask before planning around apples or plums.

Why it's different

The Western Ghats block much of the southwest monsoon, so Kanthalloor and Marayoor receive far less rain than Munnar — which is why sandalwood and temperate fruit grow here.
